Anxiety can be more difficult to feel creative, be flexible with others, and make supportive decisions. To get away from unpleasant emotions, you might overeat, binge on food (or online), or do other activities to avoid feeling what you feel. It is natural to not want to feel uncomfortable, but anxiety may return with more intensity when you are no longer distracted. Feeling anxious also can interfere with the way you communicate with colleagues and family members because it is hard to be empathic when you are in pain.

As an executive anxiety specialist, I coach leaders and entrepreneurs to help them overcome anxiety by online videoconferencing. I have been providing support for high-performing individuals with anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, and professional stress since 2006. Before becoming a coach for stress management, I provided individual counseling as a licensed therapist using the evidence based practices of mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) both in person and through telehealth. I found both in-person and online formats to be equally effective for helping individuals address anxiety and achieve their goals, and research verifies my personal experience. My preference for anxiety coaching stems from personal and professional experiences that overcoming anxiety can be most efficiently achieved without fixating on the past or adopting stigmatizing labels; instead, I prefer to mentor and teach individuals to embrace a presence-oriented approach that emphasizes practices to feel grounded in the here and now.
